"Dickinson Dees LLP - reporting its eleventh consecutive year of double-digit growth - is a class apart in the North East. The firm's offices in York and London have enabled it to attract some major new clients nationally as well as instructions on groundbreaking deals."

"While it is unquestionably the region's number one, it is taking significant steps to become a nationally recognised practice."

Expertise

Ian Kennerley (Barrister) heads the Family Law Department out of the Newcastle office. He was called to the Bar in 1983 and is a member of the Family Law Bar Association. He practiced at the independent bar in Newcastle for 25 years before joining Dickinson Dees as a partner equivalent in November 2006.

Whilst at the bar, he was the preferred choice of Counsel for solicitors both within the region and elsewhere. He is recognised in the legal guides as one of the leading family practitioners on the North Eastern circuit. He specialises in providing advice and advocacy in all aspects of family and matrimonial law. He has particular expertise in complex and high value ancillary relief cases where the assets include complex structures, including companies, trust arrangements and farms. He is realistic and provides firm advice at the outset on the likely outcome at trial.

He has considerable expertise in both private and public law children proceedings, acting for local authorities, parents, children and guardians (including the Official Solicitor). In addition, he has represented local authorities in judicial reviews and has chaired serious case reviews.

Not only is Ian regarded as one of the leading advocates in his field, he is able to apply his analytical and forensic skills at the outset of a case rather than being brought in at its conclusion, therefore providing the client with a continuity of advice and representation.
