Expertise

    John is a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. He has advised on all aspects of corporate and personal insolvency for the last 27 years. He is the moderator for the Personal Insolvency paper set by the Joint Insolvency Examination Board and an Assessor on insolvency matters for the Law Society (SRA) and an adviser on insolvency to the CBI. John is a Solicitor Representative on the Lord Chancellor's Insolvency Rules Committee; he also represents the Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society on the Chancery Court Users' Committee.

    John has encouraged all in the 30 strong DD insolvency team to undertake their own advocacy in court whenever possible and to look on the law as a tool to assist deliver sensible and cost effective solutions rather than it being an end in itself. As Editor in Chief of the Institute for Turnaround's technical notes he is also keen to promote high quality turnarounds as a pragmatic alternative to formal insolvency procedures .


    Procurement
    John has a particular specialist interest in European and UK procurement law. He advises NHS Trusts, Local Authorities and Police Forces in relation to proper but pragmatic compliance with this legislation.

    Competition Law
    John’s postgraduate studies were at the University of Brussels and while there he developed an interest in Competition Law and Policy. He has been a member of our Dawn Raid Response Team since its formation. He speaks good French and has a basic grounding in German, Italian,Spanish and Portuguese

    Intellectual Property
    John has a particular interest in trade marks, copyright and unregistered design rights and acts for clients keen to police their rights around the globe.

    Out of the office he is a keen cook and gardener and owns a small herd of prize-winning pedigree English Longhorn cattle.
