    Stuart is a partner in and heads the firm’s Environment & Safety Team, advising on the full range of environmental legal issues, comprising:

    • Risk management (particularly in transactional contexts)
    • Regulatory compliance; and
    • Regulatory enforcement and civil litigation

    Stuart has represented clients across a broad range of industrial and commercial sectors, with particular focus on the waste management, chemicals, property investment/development, banking and public sectors.

    His risk management work includes assisting clients with the environmental and health & safety aspects of the acquisition, funding and disposal of properties, companies and other assets and services, involving coordinating due diligence, advising on liability risk and management, negotiating and drafting contractual terms and organising remediation of environmental problems.

    He advises on all aspects of environmental and health & safety legal compliance, helps clients with developing regulatory compliance protocols and assists in coordinating crisis management responses to environmental and health & safety incidents.

    He also routinely leads in relation to environmental and health & safety enforcement cases, including assisting clients with investigations and prosecutions by the Environment Agency, local authorities, Health & Safety Executive and the Police.

    Stuart is listed as a `leading individual in environmental law` in Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession 2009.
